For my packaging, I had the idea of traditional dress that Turkish girls wear before their wedding night. It is a ceremony that always done with our own traditions. While the bride wears the glamorous dress ( kaftan in turkish ), the other single girls who did not experience the marriage wear the same dress with the bride. The ceremony is all night long and at the ceremony we eat the traditional food, and the henna ceremony starts in the middle of the night. The essential part of the ceremony is wearing the dress with the bride and follow the other traditions. So for the packaging my idea was showing the traditional dress. Now for the display unit I had to make the connection among my necklace, my dress and the unit that i was going to make. The question was : From where we get those dresses ? The answer is at the Grand Bazaar which is in Istanbul, the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with more than 58 covered streets and over 1,200 shops. At the Grand Bazaar you can find many souvenirs, jewelry, traditional turkish dresses which is my kaftan, and the other things for tourists.
When I visit Grand Bazaar I have the amazing feelings because it is such a different world with every kind of my own traditions all together in one market with the history of Ottoman Empire.
So I remember the doors and the walls in grand bazaar and how they display the dresses on the wall.
I am making this Grand Bazaar store which sells the traditional dresses only.
To Display each kind of the dresses they have in store they hang the dresses on the wall over and over.
My slogan which was " Carry The Sky On You " now is going to be " Carry The Sky With Your Traditions "
Because I am making a door and two walls connected to the wall, it is easier to use chipboard.
For the door imag I found this ancient door image which had reminded me the doors of Grand Bazaar.
So I am going to use this image and edit my slogan at the top of the door.
I will be posting my sketches tomorrow when I will be able to scan them.
I did many models and now chose the best one I tried to do and sure this is the best way to show my walls and door together
I covered the chipboard with a paper I found that looks like the real walls and has a similar color
This is how they hang the dresses on the wall :
I will display my dresses on the two walls. Totally it will have 14 dresses to not make it complicated, to keep the idea simple. I have still 2 to dresses to cover withe paper I use.
I have 5 different kinds of papers with the same designs which looks very similar with the patterns of the original dress has.
My next step is to arrange the way I am going to put the dresses on the walls. The necklaces will be displayed on the dresses again as the bride wears her traditional dress with her necklace on at her special night.
